Again and again, ASICS has put out a great shoe that provides awesome stability. I have used ASICS for the past 7 years doing triathlons and half marathons. I have never been disappointed with a pair of shoes from them. I have been using the Kayano 16s before this and wanted to try something new. I ordered the Newton shoes and was disappointed in them as they did not provide any support (I have a history of perineal tendinitis) and caused a lot of strain. I then ordered these 17s and have not looked back.
Asics GEL Kayano 17
I'm 6'2" 195 pounds with a narrow foot, high arch and don't pronate. I run between 20-50 miles per week depending on what I am training for. Because of my size shoes tend to wear out quickly and some years ago I switched away from shoes designed for high arches (and 140 pound athletes) and into the Gel Kayano XI - a shoe I loved. I went through 13 pairs before I couldn't get them anymore. I tried a couple pairs of the GK 15s and really didn't like them. The GK16 was better but still not as good my old XIs.The GK17, however, might be better than the XIs. They are just as comfortable, have the same fit, and are noticeably lighter. I'd have given 5 stars except I only have about 30 miles on them so it's too soon to tell about durability. If they last 300 miles, which the XIs did, it's a 5 star shoe for sure. If they only last 200, but the price were more like [$] - still a solid 5 star shoe in my book. I'm just afraid being lighter they will only last 200 miles and [$] is simply too much $$ for a 200 mile pair of shoes.
Asics gets ir right again!
Ok, I wear a size 13 4eee, I'm 5'10" 250 lb. penguin, for the size, they are pretty light. They are comfortable and are a change from the last series which felt entirely too narrow for me. They look great, don't worry guys, the purple is not bad! Asics took the time to change the leather material on the nose and front of the shoe, it is now a white patent leather which aids keeping the shoe cleaner and easier to clean after a dirty run. Great heel support as it feels to me that Asics added additional/harder insert in the mid sole and heel of the shoe. Lastly, for my size I can't rate me or this shoe as "fast" it doesn't do a 5 minute miler justice-so out of respect, I won't check that box. Great fit, great comfort-well played Asics-Well played indeed.
Wish I found this shoe sooner
I am comming to the end of my 1/2 marathon training. I have been wearing 2 different New Balance shoes and as the miles increased, so did my foot discomfort. A competitive marathon runner friend told me to try Asics. I was fitted for the Kayano 17 and took them home. Out of the box I ran 9 miles and it was such a joy. These shoes have great cushioning from the heal to the toe. They absorb the shock of a long run on pavement and I did not have any foot or leg pain when I was finnished. After 3 runs and 20 miles, I would say these are the best shoes I have ever owned. They fit great! My toes don't get rubbed raw durring a long run like they did with my New Balance. I would buy these again and again!!
A+ for Asics GEL-Kayano 17
The new GEL-Kayano 17 lives up to this shoe's stellar reputation. I work out at least 5 days a week in these, mostly in the gym, both cardio and weights. While they are running shoes, they provide a stable platform and enough lateral support for the kind of strength and weight training I do-mostly dumbbells and machines, as well as the CYBX Arc Trainer and treadmill. Love the new black color, very understated and they look better with sweatpants and jeans. Definitely a great choice for anyone who likes to mix in a little gym time with their running workouts.
Best Kayano Yet
I've had two pairs of Kayano-16s and they don't hold a candle to this pair of shoes. Instantly comfortable from the second I put them on, I took them for a 5-mile run when I got them to break them in. But breaking them in was unnecessary. When I put them on, they seemed to already be broken in. They fit my foot perfectly and the cushioning and support offered by the shoe is fantastic. If you've worn Kayanos before, you'll be more than pleased with these.

Men's ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoes
When I find something that works, I stick with it. This is the 7th generation of ASICS Kayano that I've owned, and it is the best yet. For a Stability shoe, I find it to be relatively lightweight, so, I use it for training as well as racing. Every once in a while, I've tried a different shoe, just to make sure I wasn't missing out on any new technology, but, those "other shoes" ended up being worn with jeans, and my Kayano would be the ones I kept for the real job of protecting myself when running.
Breaking The Rules
Received my new Kayano 17s late Friday night. Saturday morning I stapped them on for a breakin run. 21 miles, 3hr:10min and two mountains later I finished with no pain. My initial verdict is that these could be the best shoes ever. They have great support for a 180 pounder and better runnability due to improved flexibility. They are also the first shoe in years that fit true to size. My only concern from previous models is the durability of the sock liner which wore out way to fast on my old 16s. Great update ASICS, please don't change a thing!
For a "stability" shoe, it is very light (12.3 oz) compared to some of the clunkers that are in the 13.5 to 15 oz range. Shoe sizing, as they indicated, is a half size up from your dress shoe size. I would place this shoe in the same category as the Kayano-11, a "classic" shoe.
Asics Gel Kayano 17
This is the reincarnation of the finest shoe ever made, the Gel Kayano '97, no question about it. I used that shoe for 10 years, until I just couldn't buy it any more, having worn out at least 15 pairs. Long time runners will remember what a great shoe that was.
I put the Kayano 17 on, right out of the box, and ran a 10K with no socks at all and had no problems and no blisters. For longer runs or training runs wear socks, but this is the 'big guys' best friend!
Their all that
These are the first pair of Asics Kanyo's that I have ever owned but love them for working out. I'm kind of a running shoe junky always trying different types to find the perfect shoe. This is my favorate Stabilty shoe by far.Like much better than the 2140's I have but prefer my Nimbus for running and the Kanyo's for cross training. Also have the Kinvara's, Single tracks. I like to switch up my shoes ever other run. I will add the Kanyo's in once they've been broken in well enough.
The MOST comfortable running shoe.
I just purchased these shoes, and am currently using them to run on a treadmill. I was wearing a competitors trail running shoe, and the arch of my feet were in a good amount of pain after running several miles. These shoes have been great, and the pain in the arch of my feet have subsided. I'm extremely happy with these shoes, and would highly recommend them to others.
I like this shoe
I'm a heavier road runner and put in 15-20 miles per week. Previous Kayano's were heavy - this one rivals the Saucony Grid Hurricane 7 - my all-time favorite.
I bought this to correct an emerging underpronation gait and Achilles Tendonitis and so far so good. It feels light and well cushioned and I just completed a 4.5 mile run without feeling like I was wearing ankle weights and no post-run aching in my Achilles.
I run about 5 days per week, 15+ miles per week. This shoe is wonderful. I have used the Kayano in the past and this model holds true to the quality expected out of this model. I also run in the Asics Trainer and have found the Kayano to be a bit heavier but lasts me a lot longer than lighter shoes. This is a great shoe for the long road miles as it has high durability and comfort with a nice wide toe box and cushioning.
A very nice shoe
So far, these shoes seem to be a slight upgrade over the 16s because they do feel lighter. I thought the 16s were a fantastic shoe and was a bit concerned that the 17s would be a disappointment. Glad to see I was wrong... Maybe it's due to the lighter design, but I feel like I'm getting an even better fit and the overall ride has improved. I'm 220 lbs, so cushioning is important and these shoes deliver quite nicely.
The shoes I keep coming back to.
I switched to Mizuno's about 2 years ago and began to have knee and joint problems due to over-pronation. I tried to fix with insoles and different models to no avail. Switched back to the Kayano's after having the 13's and 14's. These 17's are the best ever. Just broke a personal record in the 10k with these and no more knee problems due to pronation.

Probably the best Kayano I have used on the roads yet. Has great balance between cushioning and support/control. The redesigned lace gives a slightly "tighter" feel over the front, which for me is much better than the 16.
The best part for me (72kg and 5'6") after a good 10km run, the 17 has been much more comfortable throughout than the 16.
Can not think of anything bad about them......
Got a pair in the early run. Feel much lighter with a lot more forefoot cushioning than the 16. Great update.
Great Stability !
Being stuck indoors for most the winter on a treadmill, having running shows that are comfortable and resonably light make putting in time 4 to 5 days a week on a treadmill more tolerable, these Kayno-17's really make a diffrence and are great on pavement. Definitly the best all around ASICS I have worn to date.
Comfortable and Durable Shoe
This product felt great right out of the box.I didn't have to break them in.The Kayano 17 is the perfect shoe for me since I am a heavy runner. It provides enough stability and pronation support without the running on bricks sensation with most stability-plus or motion-control shoes. Great shoe!

Outstanding pair of shoes
I got this pair of shoes for my boyfriend. We are workaholics. And on top of that he is a personal trainer. We are on our third pair of kayano and would not change them for any other brand or style. We added insoles to them since we work oit 6 to 7 days a week. They are easy to clean. Durable, extremely comfortable.
Love the shoe - hate the color
I'm a big guy, 6'1" and 230#. Finding a comfy shoe for a guy my size that runs 12-20miles a week is a little tough. Went with the Kayano 17 as they were the only stability+ with a sz 13.5. Great shoe, comfy so far about 2 weeks in, no injuries, no aches - but I REALLY dislike the purple or "lilac" as the box indicates on the shoe. Please Asics - remove the term "lilac" from any future men's offerings

Pretty Good Stuff!
I'm 6'3", 210 lb and mainly run on a treadmill. Average to high arch. This shoe is light, fits perfectly and cushions well. Perfect combination of support and cushioning. Perfect feel in the fore-foot as well. Also run in the NB1225 and have run in the GT2150 in the past. This may be my new everyday favorite.
I had been a VIP with RR for the last 3 years and it has been great since then. they always have a better price for VIP members[...] However, i know exactly what type of shoes I need and like; so if you are starting to run you might need to go a store first so someone can tell you what is the shoe you need. .
More of a great shoe
I have purchased and exclusively worn Kayanos for the last five years and I have never been disappointed. They live up to every claim that ASICS makes in terms of performance and comfort. The 17's are an outstanding next step in the evolution of an incredible shoe.

Great Shoe... as always.
I've been wearing Gel Kayano's for at least 8 years and they keep getting better and better. For me and my particular feet there is nothing better. I enjoy the slight amount of color changes but wish ASICS would get a little more bold with their asthetic designs... ala Nike.
Good for this over-pronator.
The asymmetric lacing takes some time to get used to, and it looks kinda funny. But, it's a durable shoe and helps with my over-pronation.
The arch in the shoe is a bit low for me.... but I could say that for just about any running shoe. If I put in some inserts, then it feels just about perfect.

Great for a Heavy Runner Like Me!
I'm a heavy runner at 200lbs, run about 15 miles/week. I finally wore out my last pair of Kayano 11's and couldn't find them anymore so I went with the 17's. Still the same support but much lighter. I was concerned less weight would mean less support but I'm very happy.
I bought these at the recommendation of a friend, and I was very pleased at the amount of cushioning they had. However, I wound up sending them back for an exchange because they had a bit too much stability in them. But they were great while I had them. They were my first pair of ASICS, but they will not be my last.
Another great Kayano
Another great update to the Kayano line. I have been running in the Kayanos since the model 9 and love them. I always insert a RRS insole in addition to the standard to provide a bit more padding for a 220# frame and the shoes hold up very well
